Foster Care Furniture Training Program
We are a 501 C3 non-profit corporation that is in partnership with the College of Western Idaho, Maker Shop, and Woodcraft to provide a free 9-week hands-on training program for foster youth (ages 18-26).
What You’ll Get:
- 64 hours of hands-on woodworking experience building real furniture.
- 64 hours of classroom instruction in construction and carpentry.
- Week 9 features a job fair with resume help, interview prep, and employer meet-and-greets.
- Mentorship and career support from instructors and trades professionals.
- The chance to build skills and give back—everything you make helps fund future trainees and foster care programs.
- Potential wages while participating in the program $10-$15 per hour, if trainee meets Idaho Department of Labor qualifications (interview with DOL to determine eligibility required).
What it Costs
$0. That’s right. We work hard to find a sponsor to cover your $800 program fee, so you can focus on learning and growing.
Next Session Starts Monday, January 6, 2026
- All training happens at the Maker Shop Boise (112 E Myrtle Street), our professional-grade workshop.
- You’ll need to sign a liability waiver and have personal insurance—if you need help with that, we’ll guide you through it.
